Enugu  –   The Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), on Wednesday appealed to the Federal Government to develop the complex of the Enugu International Trade Fair.

The President of ECCIMA, Rev. Ugochukwu Chime, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, that government needed to give attention to the development of the complex.

He, however, noted that government had given some attention to first rate fair complexes in Lagos and Kano.

“As a regional leading chamber of over 35 years, the Enugu International Trade Fair Complex development should be given equal and commensurate attention in terms of development like its contemporaries in Lagos and Kano, “he said.

Chime said that the chamber had continued to make representations and advocacy to critical stakeholders, including sons and daughters of the state, to use their respective offices to assist the chamber.

“We have made the same appeal to our people in government, both in legislative and executive arms, for fund to be voted and released for the development of the complex’’.

“The chamber has been striving to provide and create the basic environment to host international trade fairs within its limited capacity, with clearance from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.”

The chamber boss said that under his leadership, the chamber was able to lay asphalt on the internal roads of the complex in March, 2016.

The effort he said was preparatory to the opening ceremony of the 27th Enugu International Trade Fair and ensures its success.

“This gave the complex a face lift and it is believed that it would positively affect participation at the 28th Enugu International Trade Fair in March.”

The chamber, on Tuesday, held its 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) and attended by hundreds of business owners and their representatives in the state.
