ABUJA -The Federal Government has be called upon to intensify efforts at promoting technology development and innovation in order to enhance open data acquisition in Nigeria.
Mrs Sope Williams, Head of Research of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, made the call during an interactive section with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
She said data acquisition could be improved if the nation could advance its technology and innovation through robust research and development.
Williams urged the government to make relevant information available to the people to enrich their knowledge and uplift the country.
According to her, open government holds that citizens have the right to access documents and proceedings of the government to allow for effective public oversight.[eap_ad_2]
She said that data for decision making could be improved upon by recommending policies for developing science, technology and innovation.
She held that African ought to key in to equitable access to Information Communication and Technology and encourage research and development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seminar was organised by UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST).
