Dutse – The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, on Wednesday appealed to Nigerian scholars abroad to come home and impart knowledge on the younger ones for the development of the country.
Speaking at a special lecture series organised by the Federal University, Dutse, Adamu noted that many Nigerians had excelled in various disciplines in different countries of the world.
Represented by Hajiya Rekiya Iliyasu, a member of the university governing council, the minister urged them to come home and use their knowledge to improve the standard of tertiary education in the country.
He said that Nigerian students lagged behind when compared to their counterparts in other parts of the world.
The minister added that the performance of Nigerian students was below standard and that this was unacceptable.
Adamu warned lecturers against any act that was not in line with university rules and regulations.
He said that government’s position on the sale of handouts to students remained as decisive action would be taken against any institution involved in it.
The guest speaker, Dr Abdulkarim Mohammed, advised lecturers to embrace e-learning for effective and efficient teaching in tertiary institutions.
Mohammed also advised them to move from the traditional “chalk and talk or talk and talk method’’ of teaching to innovative technologies.
The lecture was tagged “Achieving Excellence in Teaching through Good Preparation and Delivery.’’ (NAN)
