The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over an alleged N6 billion fraud. Currently, the senior officers are undergoing interrogation at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
While specific details of the investigation remain unclear, it was gathered that the NSCDC officers were handed over to the EFCC on Monday following an order from the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi.
Reliable sources familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, previously sent a letter to the NSCDC CG requesting the release of the officers for questioning.
According to one source, “Six senior NSCDC officers are presently in our custody. They are being questioned by our investigators regarding alleged fraudulent activities amounting to over N6 billion.” Confirming the situation, another source clarified, “The EFCC did not detain the NSCDC CG, nor is he under investigation. We only have six senior NSCDC officers in custody, and they are being interrogated over the alleged N6 billion fraud.”
Despite attempts to reach the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, for comment, calls and messages to his phone were unanswered.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, stated, “I’m not aware of this,” in a brief WhatsApp message sent to our correspondent on Monday.
