Ahead of Eid-el-fitri celebration, a total of 5,000 orphans in Zamfara have received Sallah packages from the former Gov of the state, Abdul’aziz Yari.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the packages comprised food items and clothing materials.
Speaking while presenting the items to the beneficieries from Bukkuyyum, Birnin-Magaji and Zurmi local government areas (LGAs) on Saturday, the Secretary, Selection and Screening Committee, Malam Sanusi Liman-DanAlhaji, said that the orphans were selected for the gesture from each of the 14 Local Government Areas of the state.
Liman-DanAlhaji added that the food items included rice, maize, millet and sugar while each of the beneficiaries, both males and females, also received a set of clothing materials with N2,000 for sewing.
He said that over N169 million was spent to procure the items and each of the beneficiaries received a package of food and clothing materials worth N33,000.
Earlier in his remark, the former Commissioner for Religious Affairs in the state, Malam Abdullahi Maharazu, who represented Yari at the occasion, said that the gesture was to assist orphans to celebrate Sallah in happy mood.
“It is necessary to extend the gesture to the voiceless, especially during this holy month of Ramadan.
“Assisting the needy is necessary because it is the teaching of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
“That is why we take it seriously every year to provide the assistance to the needy as Ramadan and Sallah packages,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficieries, Usamatu Aliyu thanked the former Governor for the gesture and prayed that Allah would reward him.
