Awka – The Chief Judge of Anambra , Justice Peter Umeadi, has called for proper equipment of Probate Registries of high courts in Nigeria for better record keeping in court custody.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent reports on Saturday in Awka that Umeadi said such action would safeguard public documents that were kept in the custody of courts.
NAN reports that the call was made after inspecting the renovated office complex of the probate registry in Awka with all the judges of the state high court in attendance.
Represented by the Acting Chief Registrar of the court, Mr Nnamdi Mbanefo, Umeadi maintained that the registry was capable of increasing the internally generated revenue of state governments through registration of wills and probate.
According to Mbanefo, the CJ has consistently emphasised and immersed himself in making adequate provisions for a better Probate Registry in the state.
He urged citizens to take advantage of the restructuring to register Wills and process other documents concerning administration of Estate for deceased persons.
“Today, a turnaround has been made in the Registry which resulted in the realisation of gigantic sums ranging from N60 million to N110 million in 2016 through the probate registry,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the team also inspected eight magistrate courts that were renovated in Onitsha and Nnewi divisions.
