Abuja- The European Union (EU) and the United Nation on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have pledged to train Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria to help develop national action plan on anti-corruption.
Mr Silvester Atere, Outreach and Communication Officer, UNODC, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Abuja.
He said that the EU and UNODC had resolved to work with CSOs on plans for the implementation of United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in the country.
Atere said that EU and UNODC support anti-corruption agencies and CSOs to draw-up national action plan to curtail corruption in the country.
According to him, CSOs and 14 anti-corruption agencies will this August receive training on how to develop national action plan for the implementation of UN convention against corruption.
He said that the project was under the European Union funded ‘Support to Anti-Corruption in Nigeria’ project, which is managed by the UNODC.
He said that the training of anti-corruption agencies and civil society organisations was billed to hold in Lagos from Aug. 3 to 6.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
According to him, the objective of the training is to strengthen capacities to develop strong and evidence-based anti-corruption activities in alignment with international commitments.
He said that the training would afford Nigeria the needed help in the area of fighting corruption.
“The training, which targets representatives of Anti-Corruption Agencies, is specifically aim at enhancing the knowledge of the participants on the UN Convention against Corruption.
“It will also review mechanism; raise the awareness about the outcome of the UNCAC country review; brainstorm on activities to implement the UNCAC in practice.’’
He added that this would be followed with a review and development of an action plan for the full implementation of Chapters III and IV of the UNCAC in Nigeria. (NAN)
