Abuja – An ICT expert from South Africa, Mr Mark Gillon, on Thursday said to combat cyber crime, it was important to identify “how and why the crime is committed’’.
Gillion, who is the of Global Account Director of an ICT firm, XURA , based in Cape Town, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He explained that to curtail cyber crime, the first thing to do was to find out the issues surrounding the crime.
“We have to find out the particulars of the crime and understand it from the perspective of how it is committed and why it is committed.
“Once we understand this, and discuss specific things concerning the crime, we can then begin to find solution on how to eradicate it,’’ he said.
Gillion said that to solve Africa’s problem, especially in the ICT Sector, it was important to utilise African solution.
He said that the primary thing that needed to be done was to approach Africa’s problems within the African context and utilise solutions readily available.
He said that these problems could be solved by using African creativity to show leadership.
“In Africa, we have different issues from what the other continents have. In Africa, we have more pressing issues such health, education and growing the economy.
“What we need is a generation of young entrepreneurs to understand technology and innovation and we need to utilise these technology, creativity and innovation to make solutions for African problems.
“We can use what we have without spending millions in importing. That is how we will bring innovation to solve our problem,’’ he said. (NAN)
