Lagos – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has agreed to increase allowances and claims of its workers.
This was disclosed by a communiqué signed by the management and leaders of three aviation unions in FAAN at the end of their meeting in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a copy of the communiqué was made available to aviation correspondents in Lagos on Tuesday.
The unions, which signed the communique, are the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the National Union of Pensioners (NUP).
The communiqué was signed on behalf of FAAN by Mr Abraham Inajoh and Mr B.J Adeyemi, while the unions were represented by Mr Kehinde Rotimi (ATSSSAN), Mr Olayinka Abioye (NUATE) and Mr Emeka Njoku (NUP).
NAN recalls that the unions had threatened to go on strike if the organisation failed to address pressing issues affecting their members.
The communiqué said that FAAN had accepted to meet the workers’ demands by commencing the payment of furniture grants from January 2016.
According to the communiqué, the modalities for the payment of 27 per cent salary arrears will also be worked out before Dec.7.
On promotion, FAAN management promised to conclude all issues relating to promotion by Dec.17.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The communiqué said every qualified employee of the agency would be given opportunity to participate in the exercise which would be done strictly in accordance with the condition of service.
It said the meeting also resolved to evolve modalities for the payment of the accrued pension benefits from Pencom, while the unions would partner FAAN to recover all debts owed the organisation.
The communiqué also said that the management of FAAN and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited had not been given approval for regional operations. (NAN)
