Ikole (Ekiti) – Mr Abiodun Oluwaloyo, a cash crop farmer in Ekiti, has appealed to the Federal Government to make soft loans accessible to genuine farmers to enable them to expand their farms. Oluwaloyo made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikole, Ekiti, on Wednesday. He said that the need for economic diversification had made it necessary for government to make huge investment in agriculture. “Such investment should be utilised properly and wisely in the right direction to avoid past mistakes that had made the sector less productive. “Loan disbursement to genuine farmers, availability of farm inputs and other incentives would surely assist farmers to expand their farms.

“Unemployed youths will not hesitate to embrace farming when they see that government no longer pays lip service to agriculture development,“ he said. Oluwaloyo also urged farmers to participate in the ongoing registration for the Nigeria Agricultural Payment Initiative (NAPI). He expressed optimism that steps taken by the federal government to revamp the agriculture sector would yield results and urged farmers to support the government in that direction.(NAN)
