Ibadan – Moringa Farmers Cooperative Society has called on Local Government Areas (LGAs) to educate rural communities on the importance of moringa seeds to purify water.
The Chairman of the cooperative in Ijaye community, Oyo, Mr Adebipe Ojediran, made the call on Friday when the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Inspection Team paid a visit to Life Builder Centre, an NGO, in Ijaye.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that GEF supports the NGO with funds to implement environmental related-projects.
Ojediran said that LGAs needed to convey the importance of moringa seeds to rural communities. an Inspection and Evaluation.
According to him, this method of water purification through the use of moringa would go a long way in assisting rural communities that do not have potable water.
“What they need to do is to put moringa seeds into water and purify it for use.
“The people must be sensitized. I mean information must be given to them to see how it works before they get into it.
“It is unfortunate that the local governments are not doing any advocacy on this but all they are after is to sink some wells which dry off after some time.
“The local governments should be involved in the advantage of moringa seeds in purifying water.
“They should be able to go out and educate residents in the rural communities,’’ Ojediran said. (NAN)
