DANDUME – The Dantankari Rice Millers Association in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State has donated a block of eight classrooms and a clinic to the Dantankari community, an official said.
The association’s Chairman, Alhaji Sama’ila Umar, made this known on Thursday at a farmers sensitisation workshop on modern post-harvest practice organised by the association.
He said the donation was part of the association’s contribution to the development of the community.
Umar, who said that the block of primary classrooms were completed while the health centre was still under construction, assured the community of more support from the farmers.
He appealed to the Dandume Local Government Council to provide permanent sites for rice millers in the area, in recognition of the population of rice millers and their contribution to economic activities. He said that the mills, when established, would enhance mass food production, encourage self reliance and reduce waste recorded by farmers due to poor storage facilities in the area.
The Chairman of Dandume Local Government Council, Alhaji Ya’u Nowa, promised to forward the association’s demand to the appropriate quarters, saying that national and international organisations have been visiting Dandume on various agricultural initiatives.
Nowa commended the association for its support and community development efforts, saying it had contributed to creating job opportunities for youths in the area.
He urged the association to partner with other specialised agricultural firms, and also enjoined the people to always patronise local rice producers in the area.
The chairman said his administration accorded priority to poverty reduction initiatives and empowerment programmes that would benefit all categories of people.
According to him, road rehabilitation, erosion control and upgrading of infrastructure are being given attention by the council.
He commended Gov. Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State for supporting the council and urged the people of the state to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another.
The event was attended by farmers’ groups and agricultural produce dealers and marketers, as issues on harvest and processing of harvested goods were discussed. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
