Chapter, on Tuesday appealed to the state government to provide more arable land for cassava [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]plantation.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the success of the Federal Government policy on cassava inclusion in bread baking depended on land availability.
“We have benefited from the Federal Government’s intervention fund to increase the production of cassava.
“The policy has helped to boost our cassava production and led to reduction of hunger.
“We have embraced the policy and it has enhanced cassava production output and boosted farmers’ ability to create wealth.
“The dearth of land for cultivation has been the bane of this policy since it was formulated,’’ he said.
Ogundeyi told NAN that the farmlands made available by the Lagos State Government in Badagry and Epe, were not enough.
According to him, two hectares of land were allocated to each farmer, as stipulated by the cassava inclusion policy.
He explained that the association had provided members with high quality cassava seedlings, which were planted and are due for harvest during rainy season.
He noted that the harvested cassava would be sold to cassava processors for manufacturing of quality cassava flour for bread baking. (NAN)
