In response to the need for continued celebration and observance of Eid-El-Fitr, the Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the public holiday to Thursday, 11th April 2024. This announcement comes following the initial declaration of Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo.
The decision to extend the holiday was made after the Sultan of Sokoto announced Wednesday as Eid-el-Fitri, as the moon sighting was yet to be confirmed. Dr. Ojo, in extending warm congratulations to the Muslim community for completing their month-long spiritual journey, reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s steadfast commitment to fostering a safe and prosperous Nigeria where all citizens can thrive.
A statement signed by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, emphasized that the additional public holiday provides an opportunity for individuals and families across the country to observe and celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid-El-Fitr in unity and harmony.
The extension of the public holiday reflects the government’s recognition of the significance of Eid-El-Fitr and its commitment to accommodating the religious observances of all citizens. It is hoped that this additional day will allow Nigerians to fully partake in the festivities and festivities associated with this important religious occasion.
