Awka – The Federal Government has urged people in the teaching profession to acquire more education or be eased out of the system.
Speaking at the 10th convocation ceremony of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration was determined to reposition the education system for national relevance.
Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, said that emphasis was on education with adequate funding, enhanced welfare and efficient planning.
The president said that vocational education and training were important for home propelled growth and development and called on the educational institutions to develop curriculum of global competitiveness.
He also called on the private sector to partner with the government through funding of research and application of research results.

On his part, the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie, said that the challenges of the nation were as a result of years of corruption and lawlessness.
Commassie, a retired Inspector General of Police, who was conferred with the honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration by the university, said Nigeria would be better if all joined hands to fight the monster called corruption.
He said the Nnamdi Azikiwe University was one of the legacies that should be encouraged as it was named after a frontline nationalist who fought for Nigeria’s independence and unity.
Congratulating the graduands, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, said it was breaking new grounds in the area of research and teaching.
Ahaneku appreciated the Federal Government and all benefactors of the institution who had helped in making it to actualise its ideals and called for greater support and collaboration. (NAN)
