Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Federal Government has unveiled plans to donate 22,064 bags of rice and many assorted items as part of efforts to alleviate the sufferings of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe State.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who is to be represented by the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, is expected to handover the multi-billion naira food items to the State government for onward distribution to the beneficiaries.
Lawan, who is expected to lead the high powered delegation to Damaturu, Yobe State, disclosed this during an interactive session with the delegation from Bade Emirate of Yobe North Senatorial District, led by Buba Galadima, who paid him courtesy visit in his office.
While reflecting on his new assignment as the Senate Leader, Lawan, who acknowledged that in addition to ensuring that the Senate Chamber functioms optimally, said there are “so many extra-Chamber responsibilities to handle”.
He assured the executive and leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) of improved and productive working relationship with the Senate in the bid to improve the well-being of Nigerian citizens.
He also reiterated his resolve towards ensuring stability and harmonious relationship among the APC caucus and members of the opposition parties in the Senate.
Lawan, who also thanked his colleagues for having confidence in him, promised to work assiduously to justify the confidence and trust.
He also expressed delight over the overwhelming political support from Bade/Jakusko Federal Constituency since he was elected into the National Assembly since 1999, and solicited for prayers and counsel, while serving in the new capacity as the Senate Leader.
He explained that his election into the new office was aimed at ensuring party supremacy and cordial relationship between the leadership of the APC, the executive and legislative arms of government.
In his remarks, Galadima, who was represented by Ahmed Amshi, reiterated unreserved support to the Senate Leader in the discharge of his responsibility.
Galadima, who acknowledged the demands of the office, also tasked Lawan on the need to be diligent and accountable to God and humanity.
“We are solidly behind you, we are with you in prayers and so are all our people at home and abroad.
“We are conscious of the enormity of the responsibility that comes with the office you are presently occupying; but with our trust in the Almighty God, you will succeed,” he said.
