Sokoto- The Tureta and Shagari local governments of Sokoto State said they had commenced repairs of the 56.8km Shagari – Tureta road following its damage by flood.
The Chairmen of the two local governments, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar and Alhaji Jabbi Shagari, of Tureta and Shagari local governments, respectively, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria( NAN) in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Abubakar said: ” We embarked on the emergency repairs of the road after it was damaged by flood and made it impassable.
”We commenced the project sequel to a directive by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal to effect repairs on the road.
”The two local governments have, therefore, adequately mobilised all the needed articulated vehicles, men and resources for the project,” he said.
Abubakar said that the project was being executed through direct labour.
He appealed to motorists plying the road to be patient and to drive with caution.
On his part, the Shagari Council Chairman, Alhaji Jabbi Shagari, said the road was too important to be neglected.
”The road links various parts of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, and several farming communities.
”We are, therefore, happily executing the project as the road is key to boosting socio-economic activities of hundreds of towns and villages in the three states,” Shagari said.
