France to Fund Nigerian Researchers on Climate Change

(Sundiata Post) — The French government has said it would fund young Nigerians researchers who are willing to carry out research to tackle the growing treat of climate change around the world.

The Science and Higher Education Attaché, French Embassy in Nigeria, Professor Leila Mathieu, disclosed during the 2018 French education fair in Nigeria, that France was also collaborating with Nigerians universities, parastatals and states to offers joint scholarship to Nigerians students to study in France.
According to Mathieu, the programmes would be expanded to help fund field work for social science masters students in selected universities in the country.

She said: “Here in Nigeria all our government scholarships are joint scholarship offered with Nigerians partners: states, universities and parastastal like PTDF, have partnered with us and many more are coming on board this year. Among our new projects one is to help fund fieldwork for social science masters student in selected universities.

“We also plan on helping finance young researchers who wish to tackle climate change. Of course our main capacity building programmes jointly offered will be continued and expanded and will look at number of project that may build on that”. Mathieu added.

The higher education attaché added that about 1,500 programmes was taught entirely in English in French universities, adding that the fair which was in its sixth edition, offers Nigerian students opportunity to meet with French best institutions.

She disclosed that studying in France was one of the cheapest in the world, adding that the French government subsidises fees for all students, as it pays 14000 euros for each student every year.
