Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commiserated with the people of Benue State over the recent attacks by yet to be identified gun men in which precious lives were lost.
This was contained in a Press release from Atiku Media Office to Sundiata Post Media on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
According to the release, “Atiku Abubakar, the Zege Mule U Tiv and Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 commiserates with the people of Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area, the Tiv people and indeed the Government and good people of Benue State over the recent attacks by yet to be identified gun men in which precious lives were lost.
Atiku who said, ‘he feels personally pained by continued violent acts against innocent people in Tiv land and other parts of the country, called for more harmonious living amongst Nigerians and to see themselves as their brothers’ keepers”.
The former Vice President who holds the highest traditional title by a non Tiv amongst Tiv people, called on security agencies and their managers to step up to their game and ensure that the perpetrators of these wicked and inhuman acts are brought to feel the full weight of the law.
He also lamented the recent crisis in Buruku and its environs, and described the perpetrators of the heinous acts as “brigands who must be brought to justice”.
The Zege Mule U Tiv who recalled how Nigerians from all parts converged on the city of Gboko few weeks ago, to witness the coronation of Tor Tiv the 5th , HRH Professor James Ayatse and the good wished for great Tiv Nation, expressed dismay that the Fulani and the Tiv would allow such crises between them in Buruku.
Atiku called on the leaders of thought, traditional and political, to come together to chart a part to peace in this recurring sad tales.
The former Vice President called on the security agencies to improve in their observation of the movement of people and goods to enhance the needed security watch, added that peace is the only pedestal, upon which meaningful development can be built upon,
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who needlessly lost their lives, and also prays for peace in Tiv land, in Benue State and throughout Nigeria.
