Istanbul – The European Union’s Ambassador to Turkey, German diplomat Hansjoerg Haber, has resigned from his post in Ankara.
“I can confirm that Ambassador Haber, head of the EU delegation in Ankara, has resigned and will be leaving his current post on August 1, 2016,” an EU delegation spokeswoman said.
No additional information was provided on why the diplomat resigned his appointment.
Haber took up his post in Turkey in September 2015.
Last month, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned Haber to discuss remarks critical of the migration deal reached between the two sides.
“All the necessary steps are being taken to swiftly appoint a new ambassador,” the EU spokeswoman said. (dpa/NAN)
