Germany: Kenyan Mark Kiptoo wins Frankfurt Marathon

FRANKFURT – African runners dominated the 2014 Frankfurt marathon in Germany on Sunday, with Kenyans winning the top three places in the men’s event and an Ethiopian winning the women’s race.

In the men’s race, last year’s runner-up Mark Kiptoo won in two hours, six minutes and eight seconds, according to the online Race News Service.

Kiptoo’s training partner Mike Kigen was second in 2:07:00, while another Kenyan, Gilbert Yegon, finished third in 2:07:08.

Aberu Kebede of Ethiopia won the women’s title in 2:22:22 by over a minute from Sharon Cherop of Kenya.

Another Ethiopian, Ashetu Bekere, took third place in 2:24:59.

Defending champion Vincent Kipruto of Kenya finished a disappointing 13th in 2:12:09, while highly-rated Ethiopian Tsegaye Mekonnen dropped out after the 30-km mark. (PANA/NAN)
