Gombe – The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency SEMA says, it detected no fewer than 20 ‘fake’ Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that came to register with the agency.
The Head of Rescue and Rehabilitation of the agency, Malam, Mohammed Garba revealed this while speaking with newsmen in Gombe Monday.
Garba said that several people who impersonated the IDPs by also claiming to be displaced, were handed over to security agencies after they had been screened and discovered to have lied.
According to him, currently the IDPs in Gombe are finding it difficult to survive due to the economic situation in the country.
He said some of them engaged in private businesses in their homes before the insurgency displaced them and had nothing to do now to earn a living.
Garba explained that because of the assistance the IDPs received from Gombe state government, many of them were trooping into the state to settle.
Malam Mohammed Isge, Nasarawo Community leader in Gombe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the IDPs were facing some challenges.
Isge listed lack of money to settle house rent, lack of enough food items and health services as some of the challenges.
He however said that the security situation had improved and that some displaced persons had started reuniting with their families. (NAN)
