Gombe – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State as a
material needed to serve the country.
Olusegun, who was the Chairman of Gombe State 20th anniversary seminar, stated this in Gombe on Friday at the close of the seminar.
He said “when I was the president, I was looking for the best material to serve the country as Accountant-General.
“Somebody recommended him – Dankwambo, I invited him and he has proved beyond reasonable doubt. I do not know him personally, I only worked with recommendations and I found that he was a performer.
“I said yes, this is the man I want,’’ Obasanjo said.
The former president also said that he had worked with sons and daughters of Gombe State who performed “wonderfully well.”
He added that “Amina Mohammed, the current Minister of Environment, was also recommended by somebody who is not even a
Nigerian, and she performed well.
“If you have love in your heart, you will be a good performer, irrespective of religion and tribe.”
Obasanjo commended the government and people of the state for the laudable achievement recorded in the last 20 years.
In his speech, Gov. Dankwambo said he would “forever’’ remain grateful to Obasanjo for the opportunity he gave him to serve the country.
He said “Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is the most applicable person I know from 1999 to date in the history of the country; he assisted Gombe State in many different ways.”
On his part, elder statesman Maitama Sule said Gombe State was fortunate to have Obasanjo at its 20th anniversary.
He described Obasanjo as an achiever “and still relevant in the development of the country.
‘“This is because his (Obasanjo’s) heart is pure and he adhered to the first teaching of Christianity.
“Gombe State invited the right person to this occasion,” he added.
