Ilorin – No fewer than 400 martial arts athletes and officials would converge on Ilorin to participate in the maiden Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed Closed Karate Competition.
The tournament, being organised by the State Karate Association, will hold from Aug. 11 to Aug. 12, at the Indoor Sports Hall of Kwara Stadium, Ilorin.
The Chairman of the association, Suleiman Ishola, told newsmen on Tuesday in Ilorin that the tournament would give opportunity to both senior and junior Karatekas to express their prowess.
He added that both male and female winners would be selected to represent the state at the National Youth Games in Ilorin from Aug. 22 to Aug. 30.
Also, the state’s representative at the 19th National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Calabar in November will be selected from the competition, said.
“Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed is expected to be the Special Guest of honour at the closing on Aug. 12 as the two-day tournament bankrolled by the state government,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Kwara Karate Coach, Hakeem Lawal, has urged all interested schools and clubs to register with the association for the competition as soon as possible. (NAN)
