Minna – Gov. Sani Bello of Niger on Tuesday appealed to parents to immunise their children against the six killer diseases.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Bello was spoke at the opening of the 89th Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria in Minna.
He said that the State Government had embarked on full rehabilitation of primary health care centers in 274 wards to ensure quality health care services.
Bello urged the traditional rulers and religious leaders to sensitise parents on the importance of immunisation of children.
“Most of the killer diseases can be prevented through immunisation.
“Periodic outbreaks of communicable diseases such as cholera, measles and cerebrospinal meningitis are still in the country.
“Therefore, there is need for policy makers to be proactive in facilitating the implementation of projects and programmes to reverse the ugly trends in our society”, he said.
The governor, who was represented by Alhaji Ahmed Marafa, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, called on policy makers to be proactive in implementing policies and programmes that would improve welfare of the governed.
He appealed to the private sector and influential individuals to invest in the health care sector to complement the effort of the government in ensuring effective health care delivery.
