Aba – Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Monday in Aba expressed the determination of his administration to boost sports tourism in the state.
Ikpeazu said during an inspection of rehabilitation works at the Enyimba Stadium football pitch in Aba that the state government was committed to transforming Abia into an investment haven.
“Abia is the hub of football and we want to showcase the skills and talents of our young ones to the world.’’
The governor said the ongoing change experienced in the area of infrastructure development in the state would encourage growth in sports in the state.
“I thank the contractors for keying into our speed and work culture towards projects.
“And we will give the best of our resources required for the ongoing projects, because we are determined to give our environment the best”.
He charged the contractors to meet the deadline of two months for the completion of the project.
Ebi Egbe, the project manager of Monimichelle, the construction company, had earlier briefed the governor on the current state of the pitch.

He said the pitch would be 100 per cent organic synthetic football pitch.
Egbe said the perimeter drainage was still under construction, adding that it would have a shock absorption system.
“We intend to build a football pitch that meets world-class standard to ensure that the full potentials of turf football pitch is enjoyed,’’ he said.
Egbe assured the governor that the pitch would be completed in time to meet up with the deadline.(NAN)
