Enugu – Gov.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Tuesday said peaceful co-existence was a necessary pre-condition for the development of the society.
Ugwuanyi said this while addressing the people of Igga community in Uzo-Uwani Council Area who were at Government House, Enugu, on a peace march in support of their traditional ruler, Igwe Herbert Ukuta.
The governor maintained that the importance of the virtues of tolerance and dialogue could never be over-emphasised in any community.
“The emergence of the traditional ruler was consistent with the tenets of justice.
“The choice of Igwe Ukuta was a reflection of the people’s wishes, “ he said.
Earlier, President-General of the Town Union, Mr Raphael Amuche, lauded Ugwuanyi’s democratic disposition as evident in his decision to grant audience to both parties in the community to ensure that all voices were heard.
Amuche accused those he termed as mischief makers of causing disagreements in the community.
He said their attempt to cause disaffection and discredit their traditional ruler had failed because of the broad support the monarch enjoyed.
“We are comfortable with him, “ he said, drawing applause from the delegation.
He also thanked the governor for his “seal of approval” and appealed for continuous support for him.
The placards carried by the community members read: “Igga Town Union Stands with You“ and “We Are for You. “
