Abuja (Sundiata Post)- Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, is advocating for a national political summit to address the self serving culture of impunity in the political leadership of the country.
The group reminded that this has become necessary if we must all survive the hardship, poverty and hunger being currently inflicted on the country by ineffective and exploitative politics of Nigeria’s ruling elites.
The group disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by its Media Assistant, Mr Olubori Obafemi Isah sent to Sundiata Post.
The statement reads in full:
Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, the newly launched umbrella platform for citizens’ democratic action in Nigeria is compelled again in the early stage of its evolution to take another swipe at the current Nigerian political leadership for constituting themselves into merchants and clogs instead of public servants for the wellbeing and progress of the people.
The movement categorically frowns at the just concluded national convention of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, where higher purchase of delegates by deep pockets, money bags and the highest bidders, especially among government custodians, held sway as a clear testimony that the Nigerian democracy is presently a cash and carry business and therefore cannot serve the will and aspiration of the citizens for inclusive prosperity of the country ahead of the 2019 elections
Similarly, the Movement condemns the lingering messy discord and in fighting within the Federal Government led by the All Progressives Congress, APC. The many cases of internal crisis and public show of incohesion within the party and the federal government is a clear evidence that the ruling party has constituted itself into a major setback to productive governance of Nigeria as they bicker among themselves more than govern the country since the party assumed power in 2015
For us in the Nigerian Intervention Movement, NIM such level of dereliction, irresponsibility and self serving culture of impunity in the political leadership of the country is most unacceptable and should be urgently probed and resisted by mass movements in the country if we must all survive the hardship, poverty and hunger being currently inflicted on the country by ineffective and exploitative politics of Nigeria’s ruling elites
The NIM hereby urges President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the arrowhead of the subsisting political leadership of Nigeria, to urgently put his discordant and ineffective house in order by urgently facilitating a National Political Summit of all Key politicians and leaders of thought in the country to redress the terrible state of political hara-kiri in Nigeria so as not to further, in our estimation, task the goodwill and patience of Nigerians and provoke an overdue mass uprising against the irresponsible political system and culture in the country
For our assessment of the state of the country clearly reveals that the patience and goodwill of Nigerians towards the current political leadership of the country is being mindlessly tasked by the present crops of political gatekeepers and that the people’s unusual goodwill to government is fast burning out as Nigerians are been recklessly pushed to the walls by inertia of government and the manipulative political culture subsisting in the country
However, the Nigerian Intervention Movement, floated in Abuja recently by a convergence of ninety frontline leaders of thought in the country, a platform also tagged as G- 90 of the ‘third force’ in the emerging political equation of Nigeria is therefore set to provide ideological leadership for the majority of Nigerians who bear the brunt of the current irresponsible and inert political leadership of Nigeria now that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has announced the time table for the 2019 elections
Therefore, NIM at its expanded steering committee meeting holding on Tuesday in Lagos, is billed to consider among others, proposals to convene a major National Political Summit and to compose a strategic shadow cabinet to constantly x-ray ministerial and departmental policy actions of Government towards advising the country on the most suitable policy alternatives for popular democratic governance in the country
As concerned stakeholders, NIM is deeply worried and perturbed about the state of affairs of the masses and the impoverished of Nigeria, a situation, which today has led our country to an unprecedented crime rate and heightening insecurity of various dimensions. Therefore, as a group of leaders of conscience, who live among our pauperized folks, who are also faced with great risk created by the rapacious greed of the political elites of Nigeria, we have resolved to vanguard to a logical reality the struggle for inclusive mass prosperity for which the Peoples of Nigeria yearn and aspire since the advent of the current democracy in 1999.
Consequently, for effective mobilization and since every politics is deemed local, a six zonal Mobilization structure is already being set up by the movement to accommodate the overwhelming interest and goodwill from enthusiastic Nigerians who wish to make history with this new platform towards real system and culture change in the political leadership and governance of Nigeria
Signed
