PORT HARCOURT – Rivers Converge, a political organisation, on Friday called on Nigerians to elect credible men and women for elective offices come 2015.
Mr Nimi Walson-Jack, leader of the group, made the call at a two-day Prayer Rally for Nigeria and President Goodluck Jonathan in Port Harcourt.
Walson-Jack, a gubernatorial aspirant in the PDP, said the nation’s political environment was presently dominated by “celebrities” who sought for their personal interest at the detriment of the masses.
“We have the political process but very rarely do we dedicate the political process to God Himself; very rarely do we put the political actors in the hands of God.
“We thought that before we get lost in the fanfare of democratic and electoral process – that we should take time-off; particularly to pray for the President.
“He (the President) is going to seek re-election; so he is already the man on the job, and has the weight of responsibility of leading this country on him.

“It is in our best interest as the Bible says that we must pray for those in authority; in this case beginning with the President, because when he governs well, the country is good for all of us.
“We believe that, yes, he has done well; but like Solomon, God will grant him more wisdom so that he could even do better and have a place in the history of Nigeria.
Walson-Jack said that despite destructive tactics used by powerful individuals and groups to frustrate Jonathan’s rule, the administration had done very well in the face of opposition.
The rally, which witnessed a huge turnout, had in participation many Christian leaders and faithful offering prayers for peaceful conduct of the 2015 general election. (NAN)
