Nassarawa Eggon (Nasarawa State)- The Women Fellowship of Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC) Vocational training Centre for widows and orphans has trained 33 widows and orphans in Nasarawa state.
The ERCC women leader, Mrs Bibiya Gila, made this known at the 9thgraduation ceremony for 2014/2015 session of the centre in Alushi, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
Gila said that the fellowship had designed different skills acquisition programmes to engage widows and orphans to enable them to become self-reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.
“The women fellowship training is part of our contribution to improve on the lives of widows and orphans who lost their love ones so as to give them a sense of belonging in the society and to enable them contribute their quota to national development.
“It is better to teach people how to fish than to give them fish to eat, that is why we deem it necessary to trained 33 women in computer, tailoring, beads making, among others so as to enable them take care of themselves and their families.
“The aim of the training was also to fight the high rate of unemployment, poverty which has degenerated into other anti-social activities such as violent crimes, insecurity, armed robbery, drug and human trafficking in the society,” she said.
Gila enjoined the women to be steadfast in their handiwork and to use the knowledge gained to be self-reliant as well as training others to extend the benefit.
She also appealed to wealthy individuals in the society to always shows love and care to the widows and the needy toward improving their standard of living.
She urged Nigerians to pray for divine intervention for a quick rebound into prosperity in order to overcome the various challenges facing the nation.
In his good will message, Dr Jerry Madibo, the ERCC National President, commended the women of the church for upholding the general vision of the church through activities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the graduation commended the women fellowship for the training and promised to use the knowledge gained adequately.
