LAGOS – The 2014 edition of “The Headies Music Awards”, has opened for entries to Nigerian music materials released between July 2013 and June 2014.
The organisers, Smooth Promotions, which made the disclosure in Lagos on Tuesday, said the entry process commenced on July 22 and would close on Aug. 30.
The Chief Executive Officer of Smooth Promotions, Mr Ayo Animashaun, said the awards which was in its ninth year would continue to maintain its high standards.
He said that Nigerian artists had contributed their quota to the nation’s growth and deserved to be recognised and rewarded.
“There is no better way to reward these deserving artists where they are not only appreciated by their country but also celebrated on a platform aligned with international brands.

“The honour of receiving this prestigious award in their country, that is recognised on an international level, is one of the many things Smooth Promotions aims to achieve with this year’s awards,’’ he said.
He added that there would be a new category, “Best Alternative Song’’ and that the live premiere of “The Headies’’ would hold on Oct. 25.
The Headies since its inception in 2006, has recognised the distinguished achievements of artists and entertainers in various categories.
These include Rap, RnB, Dancehall and Alternative Music, making it one of the biggest events in Nigeria’s entertainment calendar.
The Headies which was previously known as the Hip Hop World Awards, has recognised some of the biggest Nigerian artists, including D’banj, P-Square, Dr Sid, Wande Coal and Wizkid. (NAN)
