ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The House of Representatives has resolved to name the National Assembly Complex after one of its former Speakers, Ghali Umar Na’Abba.
This was a sequel to the adoption of a motion by Rep. Aliyu Madaki (NNPP-Kano) during plenary in Abuja on Thursday.
Moving the motion, entitled “Need to immortalise former Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba by naming the National Assembly Service Commission building after him, Madaki said at the beginning of the fourth Republic in 1999, Na’Abba was elected as a member of the House.
He said Na’Abba was an influential Speaker of the House between 1999 and 2003 on account of his courageous, dynamic, outspoken pursuit of legislative independence.
He commended his revolutionary approach to running the House as Speaker within the period.
“Na’Abba, as Speaker, embarked on a number of measures to ensure the independence of the legislature, which included but were not limited to profound scrutiny of the budget framework,” he said.
