ABUJA – The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi, on Monday inaugurated three ministerial committees for the successful commencement of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC).
They were “Verification and Auditing of Federal Government Lands and Landed Property in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT, the Presidential Initiative on the Delivery of 10,000 Housing Units Under the NMRC and the National Housing Survey”.
Eyakenyi the committees would enhance home accessibility and ownership in the country, through new products and services provided by the NMRC.
She said the committee would ensure that the NMRC that was launched on Jan. 16 increased mortgage penetration in the country.
The minister further said the committees would ensure proper utilisation of Federal Government’s lands and landed property with a view to getting maximum value from prime property.
According to her, the committees will also ensure that under-utilised lands are made available for new housing projects.
She urged members of the Presidential Initiative on the Delivery of 10,000 housing units under the NMRC to evolve a plan for the timely delivery of the housing units.
She said the committee should also propose sound eligibility criteria for the participation of developers and builders in the construction of the housing units.[eap_ad_2]
The minister said the committee should among others create synergy between the ministry and the office of the Coordinating Minister of Finance to ensure effective implementation of the presidential initiative.
Eyakenyi tasked the committee on verification and auditing of Federal Government lands and landed property in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to propose a framework for the creation of a land bank.
She said the committee should undertake a comprehensive inventory and auditing of Federal Government lands and landed property in all the states and the FCT.
The minister said the committee on national housing survey should ascertain the characteristics of the various housing estates developed by the ministry, Federal Housing Authority and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
She said the committees should also ascertain the characteristics of houses developed by the Real Estate Development Association over the last four years.
Eyakenyi said the committee should undertake a national housing survey in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders as well as recommend measures to make them operational.
The three committees would be chaired by the minister.
Members of the committees were drawn from directors and deputy directors in the ministry.
The committee on the verification and auditing of Federal Government lands and landed property in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT also had one state controller each from the six geo-political zones. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
