PwC suggests that banks have several strategic options to manage their international portfolio. One approach is to establish an offshore holding company while maintaining a local presence across various banking options.
Additionally, banks can explore Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) opportunities, including being acquired by international banks entering the Nigerian market, acquiring local players, merging with peers, or divesting portfolio components.
Another strategy involves realigning their license, such as downgrading or changing existing licenses, and expanding their footprint through non-banking license authorization. Finally, banks may consider exiting or divesting certain components as part of their strategic pathway.
