LAGOS – A Lagos State Coach, Gafar Dolapo, has complained that the Dart event of the ongoing Lagos State Sports Festival, tagged “Ibile Games” witnessed low turnout of teams.
As at Thursday, only 10 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the 20 and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) have entered for the event unlike the previous Games where not less than 17 featured.
Gafar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the low turnout had affected the running of the event as they planned to conclude it in just a day instead of two days earlier allotted for the competition.
The coach appealed to the organisers of the Games to compel all the LGAs and LCDA to enter in all events, including Dart in future Games.
Gafar urged the government not to schedule competitive sporting events in an election year, so as not to have distractions.
The official, however, commended the government for organising the competition to discover talents for upcoming regional and national events.
“The government needs to give more priority to other sports rather than concentrating too much on football since it is aimed at promoting budding talents,” he said. (NAN)
