ILE-IFE (OSUN) – The Golden Jubilee President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mr Chudi Ajaegbu, has donated a 300-seater lecture theater to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
Ajaegbu donated and inaugurated the lecture theater to commemorate the distingushed career of the current Chairman, Body of Past Presidents of ICAN, the Balogun of Ife, Chief Bisi Omidiora.
He said that the theater was donated on behalf of ICAN to OAU as its contribution to the development of the university and the education sector generally.
According to him, education must be given priority at the local, state and federal level, so that the younger generation will gain necessary knowledge from the appropriate quarters.
He expressed the hope that accountants would benefit from Omidiora’s wisdom, foresight and patriotism, through his character and uncommon contributions toward nation building.
Ajaegbu said that in his career spanning over six decades, he had not only distinguished himself as a celebrated administrator, a renowned chartered accountant, a financial expert but also as an elder statesman.

He said that Omidiora was not only a thorough business mogul, a community leader and a great philanthropist, but he had written his name in gold in the annals of his profession and the nation as a statesman.
Earlier, Prof. Bamitale Omole, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, had expressed appreciation to the ICAN president and the Institute’s management for donating the lecture theatre to the university.
Omole, who was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), OAU, Prof. Ayobami Salami, promised that the institution would take good care of the facility and would ensure that the building was put into effective use by students and members of staff.
He urged other professional bodies to emulate ICAN and contribute their own quota to the development of the university and other tertiary institutions in the country.
Pa Simeon Oguntimehin, the Past President of ICAN and also the Lisa of Ondo kingdom, congratulated Ife community and acknowledged the university management for giving the land for
the lecture theatre.
Oguntimehin also lauded the ICAN president for building the lecture theatre and urged the school management and accountancy students to use the building effectively.
Mr Bisi Omidiora appreciated the ICAN president for the donation on his behalf and prayed to God to enrich the ICAN president.
He urged the university management to maintain and ensure effective use of the lecture theatre. (NAN)
