Ilorin – Mr Solomon Olayinka, an Ilorin-based Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expert, has warned the public against careless disclosure of personal information to strangers.
Olayinka gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday.
He noted that revealing personal details to strangers was dangerous.
He said that most people were fond of giving out their vital information to friends and family members to access.
“It is dangerous to reveal your bank details, email, Gmail, phone passwords and other vital codes to strangers, all in the name of trust.
“That is why we have cases of fraud everywhere. We carelessly fall victims of Internet fraudsters for trusting everybody with our details.
“We experience cyber-crime every day in the country. It is becoming a growing business for some people and we need to be secretive enough not to submit every vital detail to fraudsters,’’ Olayinka said.
The expert, however, warned the public to stop registering their details on every online platform for transactions.
He also warned against accessing credit loans online as it may require submission of BVN pin and Bank Account number.
“Getting credit facilities online is very dangerous at the moment. Entering your BVN and Account number is unsafe and dangerous,’’ he warned.
Olayinka, however, called on the Federal Government to be strict on Internet fraudsters to eradicate increased cyber-crime in the country.
