ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Former minister of defence and Chairman, Victims Support Fund (VSF), Gen Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) ,  has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat over the 2015 presidential polls, noting that if the former Biafran leader, Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu had done the same thing after the fall of Enugu to federal troops,  Nigeria would have been saved one full year of bloodshed.

Danjuma told newsmen this after President Jonathan paid a visit at Danjuma’s residence in Abuja.

The agenda of the meeting was not known as it was held behind closed doors.

Danjuma said Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has set a record in the history of the country.

He said if Ojukwu had done the same thing after the fall of Enugu, when his government had to flee into the bush it would have been a different story today.

He said, “if he (Ojukwu) had conceded victory to the federal troops he would have saved the nation one full year of bloodshed.

“President Jonathan has set a history, a record as something to be emulated by Africa and indeed the whole world. Its an excellent thing he did”.

Jonathan had before the elections met Danjuma at his official residence in the Villa on March 11.

The President thanked Danjuma for his fatherly support during the election.

Ahead of the May 29 date for handing over to the next administration, Jonathan has been having private consultations in preparation of the ceremony.

The President, it can be recalled met with President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Friday last week to discuss the transition programme.
