DAMATURU – The Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, on Monday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its conduct during Yobe bye-election.
Dr Nwambu Gabriel, the Director General of the centre, disclosed this to newsmen in Damaturu.
“The Yobe bye-election has reassured Nigerians to expect credible elections in Ekiti, Osun and the 2015 general elections,’’ Gabriel said.
He said the commendation was based on the centre’s assessment on the degree of compliance by INEC to the electoral laws as it were.
According to him, assessment is sequel to reports by the centre’s officials who monitored the election in Nengere- Sabongari, Tikau, Garin-Mallam, Chileriye, Dadiso/Chukuriwa and Watinani.
“We also observed that voting, sorting, counting and the announcement of result had complied with the relevant electoral laws and Global best Practice,’’ Gabriel said.
He also commended the security operatives, the participating political parties, their supporters and the electorate for successful conduct of the election.
“We also commend the state government for not interfering in the electoral process in the state constituency election.
“We reiterate our support in enthroning a globally accepted process which brings to cognisance equity, fair play and the rule of law in Yobe and indeed Nigeria,’’ Gabriel said. (NAN)
