IBADAN (Sundiata Post) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Feb.3, conduct a rerun election in two polling units of Saki West constituency in Oyo State.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Tella.
According to the statement, the rerun election which is for the State House of Assembly seat is in accordance with a court order.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Court of Appeal sacked the lawmaker representing Saki West State Constituency, Mr Shittu Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared winner of the election held on March 18.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Julius Okedoyin, who was satisfied with the result, approached the court.
Tella listed the affected polling units as Odo Osun PU 007 with 750 registered voters and Ogbalanja 019 with 554 registered voters.
The REC stated that only eligible voters with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and registered in the affected polling units were qualified to vote on election day.
He also said that Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed accordingly for accreditation and voting.
He equally said the exercise will take place between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm, adding that only voters who are on queue before 2:30 pm would be given the opportunity to vote.
He urged all participating political parties to start campaign immediately and that such campaigns will end on Feb. 1 in accordance with the new Electoral Acts 2022. (NAN)
