Sundiata Post – In response to the October 7 attack on Israel, the US government has implemented further measures, imposing sanctions on eight Hamas officials, according to CNN. The recent round of sanctions, coordinated with the United Kingdom, targets key individuals within the Hamas leadership.

Among those subjected to sanctions are Ismail Barhum, a member of Hamas’ Political Bureau with a role in the regional finance department, and Haroun Nasser Al-Din, head of Hamas’ Jerusalem office, recognized as a key financial operative in Turkey. Ali Baraka, the Lebanon-based head of Hamas’ National Relations Abroad, and Jihad Yaghmour, Hamas’ official representative to Turkey, are also included in the sanctions.

This marks the fourth round of sanctions imposed by the US since the October 7 attack. The United Kingdom, through Foreign Secretary David Cameron, emphasizes that these sanctions aim to cut off the officials’ access to funding and further isolate them.

Aiman Ahmad Al Duwaik, an Algerian national accused of assisting in managing Hamas’ overseas investment portfolio, is also part of the sanctions, aligning with the broader effort to target individuals involved in financing Hamas.

Additionally, the sanctions extend to Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an Islamist militant group, with the inclusion of Akram al-Ajouri. Al-Ajouri serves as the Syria-based Deputy Secretary General of the group and leads its military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades.

These coordinated sanctions reflect the continued international response to the October 7 attack and underscore a collective effort to hold key figures accountable for their roles within these organizations.
