ABUJA (Sundiata Post) You can say what you want about Comrade-Senator Shehu Sani. You can say he’s doing it for politics or that he’s doing it for attention. You may be right. However, he is about the only high profile member of the APC power structure who has consistently bucked the consensus in his party and among Buhari loyalists to criticize the corruption, nepotism, hypocrisy, and incompetence in PMB’s administration.
There seems to be a method to his madness.
He is, moreover, the only member of the legislative chamber from the caliphal zone of the North who is clearly criticizing the current administration on its lackadaisical and jaundiced handling of the herdsmen issue.
I don’t know him so I can’t speculate on what his motivations are, but he seems like an atypical Nigerian politician to me, hence his willingness to jeopardize his political future and aspiration to speak truth to power even as an insider.
He could simply have kept quiet, blended into PMB’s inner circle, and reaped the handsome rewards of loyalty. He has not done so.
Again, his motivation is probably politics, but better a politician who courageously speaks his mind even for political reasons than one who is hypocritically enabling the incompetence, corruption, and tyranny they conveniently and opportunistically condemned in the past because these vices are today being perpetrated by their party or political benefactor.
In many ways, Buhari is a floundering failure today because he refused to listen to tough insider-critics like Shehu Sani and instead surrounded himself with corrupt, incompetent sycophants and with competent but self-centered and bigoted ethnic supremacists such as el-Rufai.
