Birnin Kebbi – Alhaji Mohammed Umar, the National Assembly member representing Gwandu/Aliero/Jega Federal Constituency in Kebbi, says he has facilitated the construction of a stadium worth N40 million in Jega Local Government Area.
Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday that he facilitated the funding for the project to enable youths to engage in sports in preference to anti-social activities.
He said facilities to be provided in the proposed stadium included an Indoor Sports Hall, two football fields, track and field, tennis, handball, basketball and volleyball courts.
He said youths had the potential to engage in sports of their choice and emerge champions to win laurels for the state and depend on sports for livelihood.
“Youths need encouragement to exhibit their skills and engage in sports to foster unity, healthy rivalry and professionalism,’’ he added.
He said he would encourage individuals and corporate organisations to sponsor sports competitions to enable the youth engage in regular activities that would enhance unity and development.
