Birnin Kebbi – No fewer than 88,000 children are targeted for vaccination against measles in Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi, Alhaji Musa Magina, the council’s Director of Health said.
Magina said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jega that 448 health personnel had been deployed for the exercise.
NAN reports that the five-day nationwide vaccination against measles commenced on Saturday in all the 21 local government areas of the state, targeting 700,000 children.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Also, 7,775 health personnel were trained to conduct the vaccination in 225 wards, comprising 1,125 centres.
Magina said “we are very much delighted in the way and manner our people accepted the calls for vaccination of their children.”
Alhaji Tukur Dan-Buga, the Chairman of Jega council, also told NAN that many lives had been lost in the area as a result of measles.
He said “I hope that at the end of this exercise, the rate of death will be reduced.’’
Dan-Buga added that the massive turnout of children for the exercise was due to the enlightenment conducted prior to the exercise. (NAN)
