Dutse – The Jigawa government has approved the sale of 3,280 metric tonnes of assorted fertiliser to farmers in the state for the 2015 farming season.
The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Agriculture, Malam Muhammad Danzomo, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Dutse.
“I will like to tell you that the governor has given the ministry an approval to sell 3,280 metric tonnes of assorted fertiliser to farmers in the state,” he said.
Danzomo said the commodity would be sold to the farmers in all the 27 local government areas of the state.
He explained that the exercise would be conducted through the local government distribution committees comprising of all stakeholders, including security agencies in the state.
The permanent secretary added that the commodity would be sold to the farmers at subsidised price.
According to him, the Jigawa Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) has been directed to sell the fertiliser to the farmers at 50 per cent discount.
He said while chemical fertiliser would be sold at N3,000 per bag, organic fertiliser would be sold at N1, 800 per bag.
Danzomo also announced that the state government had approved the distribution of free sesame seeds to farmers that would cultivate 3,000 hectares in the state.
He added that free maize and rice seeds would be given to farmers who would cultivate over 4,000 hectares.
The exercise, he said, would be conducted under the supervision of the State Fertiliser Monitoring Committee next week, adding that no fewer than 48,500 farmers had been registered. (NAN)
