Kaduna – The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law the Kaduna State Roads Agency Bill (KADRA) 2017.
The new law provides for the establishment of a roads management agency, and repealed the 2002 law establishing the State Public Works Agency (KAPWA).
It also takes over some of the functions of the department of civil engineering of the state Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr John Kwaturu, who presided over the sitting, explained that the new agency would handle all issues related to roads in the state.
“The agency shall undertake, construct, upgrade, maintain and rehabilitate roads within the state.
“The agency would also prepare strategic and annual business plans in accordance with the road asset management system for roads and also monitor and evaluate the roads.
“The Agency would also be saddled with responsibility of keeping proper records of road and other movable and immovable assets under its control,” he added.
