Kaduna – The Kaduna State Government has approved the construction of three new standard refuse dumping sites and ten transfer stations at the cost of N675 million.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Mr Shehu Giwa, made this known on Monday in Kaduna, while speaking with newsmen.
He added that the refuse dumping site was to take care of the increasing tonnes of waste generated daily in the state.
He further added that approval had also been given for the construction of new ten transfer stations to improve waste collection across the state.
Giwa added that out of the ten, six transfer stations would be constructed within Kaduna, three in Zaria and one in Kafanchan.
He said the construction of three new dump sites one in each of the three senatorial districts of the state, has also being approved at the cost of N480 million (N160m per site).
He said that the sum of N195million (N19.5m each) had also been approved for the ten transfer stations, stressing that the contractors had 12 weeks to complete the projects.
“ We are conscious of time and quality to deliver the project to the people, “ he said.
Giwa said the development was in addition to the ongoing construction of covets, drains and canals geared towards making the environment safer and less expensive to manage in future.
According to him, before now, there was no single standard transfer station in any part of the state.
He therefore, expressed optimism that the project when completed, would greatly benefit the people as well as help control flooding in the state.
He maintained that the state governor has special interest in environment.
This, he explained, was the reason he was giving priority to programmes and policies that were aimed at making the state`s environment safer through the relevant agencies (NAN)
