Kano – The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, has directed the state Fire Service to sensitise management and students of public secondary schools to fire prevention and safety measures during fire outbreaks.

Prof. Abubakar is also the state Commissioner of Education.
The directive is contained in a statement signed by the Director Press in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Alhaji Usman Bello, issued to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
According to the statement, the deputy governor gave the directive when he inspected the dormitory that was bunt down by fire on Wednesday at the Government Secondary School, Kwankwaso, in Madobi Local Government Area of the state.
It said Abubakar, who lamented the frequent fire outbreaks in schools in the state, said the measure was necessary to prevent future occurrence.
He warned students to always ensure that all electrical appliances were switched off after use, even when there is no light, as well as avoid cooking in the hostels.
The statement said the deputy governor distributed mattresses to the students whose belongings were destroyed by the inferno.
He said the state government had procured mattresses, blankets and pillows with which to relocate the affected students to other hotels.
The deputy governor was received and conducted round the affected hostels by the Executive Secretary of the state Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, Alhaji Usaini Umar, the statement said. (NAN).
