KANO- The Kano State Government on Wednesday said it had established three HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing Centres at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Kano.
Mrs Kande Garba, the officer in charge of Voluntary Counseling and Testing Unit, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.
“For now we have three centres for counseling, testing and treatment for HIV patients,’’ she said.
The officer explained that the centres would reduce the hardship being experienced by some of the patients in accessing free counseling and treatment.
According to her, there are more than 15,000 HIV patients currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
“We are also receiving patients from private hospitals because the retroviral drugs in the private hospitals are not given free,’’ she said.
Kande said that the centres gave free drugs to carriers, while it arranged marriages for carrier couples.
She also said that the centres ensured that babies of women carriers were HIV negative. (NAN)
