Lagos – The Customs Public Relations Officer, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command, Mr Ndidi Amadi, said that the command had been fulfilling the 48-hour ministerial directive on cargo clearance.
Amadi stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
He said that Customs agents that met the requirements of cargo clearance would have their goods released at the appropriate time.
The customs spokesman said that only importers, who under- declared or caught involved in one form of sharp practices or the other during documentation, had their cargoes delayed.
“Our men are attuned to the directive and are working round the clock to ensure cargoes are released on time.
“The command is shippers’ friendly in that we constantly sensitise agents on those things that are required of them to speed up the release of their goods,’’ Amadi told NAN.
He, however, warned agents to desist from manipulation of documents, adding that offenders would not go unpunished.
Amadi said that the command had set up an ad hoc committee made up of customs officials to monitor documentation and valuation to forestall racketeering. (NAN)
